Printer Systems – inkjet printer cartridges reservoirs, inkjet printer wicks, inking pads Print

Printer system components

The printing market is a dynamic segment driven by products demanding ink management solutions of superior performance. Ink containment, ink extraction and leak resistance inter alia are strong market drivers for the many OEM companies participating in this market.

Printing systems utilizing liquid inks, especially inkjet ones based on cartridge supplies, may require a component reservoir to retain ink and provide leak resistance, and a wicking component to precisely transfer the ink from the cartridge reservoir to the print head. Filtrona Porous Technologies develops and engineers custom designed reservoirs and wicks for the inkjet cartridge market. Because of its ability to customize the geometric shape of the component for precise fit, Filtrona Porous Technologies has experience working with all cartridge designs. For dye and pigmented inks, our bonded fiber components help maximize ink extraction under precise control, maintaining superior leak resistance.

Filtrona Porous Technologies also manufactures specialized printer hardware components used to store cleaning fluids within the hardware devices, maintain the integrity of and clean inkjet print heads, or to absorb waste or overspray ink especially in but not limited to borderless printing applications, such as photo printing. Lastly, our components are used as ink wicks and reservoirs in technical pens, self-inking stampers and stamp pads.

Inkjet Printer Cartridge Reservoirs and Wicks

Inkjet Cartridge Reservoirs
TRANSORB® Inkjet Cartridge Reservoirs provide controlled ink release for inkjet cartridge reservoir applications. Our specially produced fibers optimize printer performance and total ink recovery from the ink cartridge. Compared to foam reservoirs, our fiber reservoirs are easier to assemble into cartridges, allow for high speed assembly of cartridges, and provide superior cartridge performance uniformity. When designed in conjunction with Filtrona Porous Technologies inkjet cartridge wicks, total ink recovery can be fully optimized.

NEW!
TRANSORB® HRM & HRM+:
Transorb HRM [High Release Media] is a polyolefin-based bonded fiber component system featuring a proprietary hydrophilic finish that provides industry leading ink extraction and leak resistance characteristics for inkjet cartridge reservoirs. Available in highly complex shapes, it is well suited for uniquely designed and specialized ink reservoir systems. Transorb HRM provides excellent ink stability and cleanliness with most dye and pigmented ink formulations.

What separates TRANSORB HRM from other inkjet cartridge media utilized in the imaging industry market is its ink extraction performance and remarkable void volume flexibility. TRANSORB HRM provides OEMs the flexibility to control the desired amount of ink provided within its inkjet cartridges while ensuring as great as 85% ink extraction. Put simply — you can put a lot more [or less] ink in and get a lot more ink out. The flexible cost and performance benefits of these features can be dramatic for OEMs as imaging and print quality cost demands tied to the ink continue to rise. Reduced ink loadings with our fiber technology High Release Media providing costs savings greater than the cost of the reservoir are attainable.

HRM+: TRANSORB HRM is also offered in a patent pending gradient reservoir design featuring a gradient density profile within a single reservoir construction. This HRM+ product, similar in concept to TRANSORB IBR below, can be designed with multiple layers of fiber density to specifically fit a unique cartridge design and provide substantially and significantly more ink extraction performance with equivalent leak resistance than standard TRANSORB HRM. Depending on the ink formulation involved, HRM+ can achieve near 90% extraction efficiency.

TRANSORB® PFR: Transorb® PFR reservoirs and wicks represent proven, patented technology for inkjet cartridge applications. Unlike most porous media used in inkjet cartridges, Transorb PFR inkjet components feature no finish or coating. They are inert to both dye and pigmented inks so as to avoid ink contamination, chemistry change, or pigment degradation. Available in customized shapes to provide exact fit and quick assembly, Transorb PFR reservoirs and wicks also feature high ink-extraction efficiency with superior leak resistance.

TRANSORB® IBR:
Patent-pending Transorb® IBR [Integrated Buffer Reservoir] is a reservoir system integrated into a single component for hybrid cartridge designs. Hybrid ink cartridges, in which a reservoir system lies adjacent to a free ink chamber, often present complexities to cartridge suppliers. Although able to provide improved ink capacity and leak resistance compared to standard cartridges, it can be difficult to engineer them so that the porous media or foam conforms properly to the cartridge housing. Leaking and premature ink drop are common problems. Inkjet Printer Wicks and Reservoirs

Transorb IBR was developed as a purpose-built solution for this cartridge design. Many hybrid cartridge designs employ a two- reservoir system – one high capillarity reservoir and one low capillarity reservoir – within the reservoir chamber. Filtrona Porous Technologies' Transorb IBR achieves this system with a single component, thereby performing as a multilayer or gradient density reservoir.

  • Transorb IBR provides superior leak resistance.
  • Transorb IBR optimizes and reduces the drop in ink level upon assembly and ink fill.
  • Transorb IBR swells on contact with ink, providing a precise cartridge seal.

TRANSORB® Ink Jet Cartridge Wicks, Printer Overspray Reservoirs, and Toner Cartridge Seals

  • TRANSORB® Ink Jet Cartridge Wicks transfer ink from the inkjet cartridge reservoir to the print head. Various fiber types provide uniform capillarity to optimize ink recovery. Resiliency and structural strength allow high speed automated assembly.
  • TRANSORB® Overspray and Waste Ink Reservoirs are used to collect overspray and waste ink during the print head cleaning cycle. These reservoirs are constructed to maximize capillarity while maintaining a liquid capacity that allows them to function without replacement during the life of the printer. The capability to produce irregular cross-sections is particularly useful in designing reservoirs to fit within compact printer designs.printer_gaskets.jpg
  • TRANSORB® inkjet printhead scraper reservoirs and solvent containing components are designed to maximize print head performance and life within the inkjet hardware device. Scraper components function as print head cleansers and may be designed as or in conjunction with a solvent reservoir to provide mild cleansing or lubricant liquid to prevent print head clogging or desiccation.
  • Filtrona Porous Technologies also provides foam-based gaskets and seals for toner cartridge products.

Stamping and Inking Pads

Stamping and Inking Pads
  • TRANSORB® Reservoirs are specially designed for the high viscosity inks used in self-inking stampers and stamp pads.
  • Bonded cellulose acetate reservoirs can be provided in rectangular cross sections up to 100mm wide for stamp pad applications.
  • Bonded polyolefin reservoirs can be constructed with a high voids volume while maintaining the high levels of capillarity required for self-inking stamper reservoir applications.

Imprinting Machine Reservoirs

  • TRANSORB® Reservoirs are ideal for use as ink reservoirs for postage meters and other office imprinting machines. Filtrona Porous Technologies bonded fiber components have the structural integrity required for automated assembly while maintaining high ink release characteristics to extend servicing intervals for re-inking or ink reservoir replacement.
